System Configuration
The IntelliData System architecture is designed to support installations with just a few sensors or pdu devices through to global enterprises with thousands of cabinets installed at multiple sites. It uses a mixture of IP and serial data links to maintain near instantaneous monitoring without impacting significantly on network traffic.
IntelliServer scans all the IntelliPollers in the system every few seconds. If the data has changed since the last scan, the new values are stored with a time stamp. IntelliServer compares the data with user defined thresholds and sends alerts accordingly. Users can long on to IntelliServer with IntelliManager to view current and recorded information about the system. It is also possible for third party software to treat IntelliServer as a database and extract data via SQL and ODBC.
RS485 is a serial bus that allows devices to be connected and disconnected without disturbing any other devices on the bus. In it's simplest form it is just 3 wires, but the the IntelliData Systems implementation uses 3 additional wires for some auxiliary functions and to provide power to the logic board in each monitoring device from the IntelliPoller. This has the advantage that if the power that a device is monitoring fails, the logic board in the device remains alive and able to actively report the power failure.
