Monitoring
Monitoring
There are two key platforms that link the movement of real time data from the data center to the operations team: Intelliserver and Intellimanager. Both platforms are developed in-house with direct input from users, ensuring 100% compatibility with our hardware.
What is Intelliserver?
IntelliServer is the central control application that is the focal point for the IntelliData system. The application runs as a data server, usually using IntelliManager as its user interface. Typically an enterprise will run one IntelliServer that scans all the installed IntelliPollers at every location within the enterprise. Multiple users are able log on to the server from different sites with IntelliManager (or third party applications) to monitor or view the data that is applicable to them.
IntelliServer is based around a databas that supports standard SQL queries over an industry standard ODBC interface. The drivers are available from the business on request. This allows third party software such as spreadsheets or asset management tools to import live data directly from IntelliServer.
IntelliServer uses a delta triggered storage system for historical data. This means it only stores data when a monitored parameter changes, allowing IntelliServer to store historical data for thousands of devices over months or even years on a standard 30GB+ hard drive.
When monitored parameters exceed user defined thresholds at device level, cab level, PDU or even room level, IntelliServer will issue alerts in various forms, such as SNMP traps to the Operating Centre's monitoring software.
IntelliServer may be installed on any Windows NT, XP, 2000, Vista or later platform. Although virtual machines can be used, speed performance in cabinet access control applications is significantly better with a real machine.
What is Intellimanager?
IntelliManager is designed to give instant access to monitoring data from a single hardware device or from 1000+ Racks in datacentres on all 5 continents. The data can be sorted and filtered with clicks of a button and the results can be displayed as tables graphs or maps, or whatever is appropriate for the task in hand.
Some examples of how clients use IntelliManager are:
- How much power a chassis really pulls
- The remaining capacity of a PDU
- How well the 3 phase supply is balanced
- How power and temperature vary over time
- The total power in kWhr consumed by individual users
- Whether a rack door was open when the server failed
- Whether hot spots are developing in the room
Intelli-VU
IntelliVU is a multifunction reporting tool designed to augment the monitoring function of IntelliManager, the established user interface for the IntelliServer data gathering engine. For small applications, the standard reporting facilities built into IntelliManager function well. However as systems grow larger, the processing time that IntelliServer can give to processing reports diminishes at the same time that the complexity required of reports increases.
Advantages of IntelliVU
- Isolating the data gathering function from the report processing function means that running processor intensive reports will not impact severely on the real-time capability of IntelliServer.
- IntelliVU can generate a continuously updated report reflecting the last 30 days activity. This has the advantages of improved reliability and greater availability – a report on what has happened in the last month can be accessed at any time.
- IntelliVU includes additional standard reports that present historical power and environmental data in coherent, comprehensible format at device, cabinet and room levels.
- IntelliServer generates raw data in a form optimised for IntelliManager, which doesn’t necessarily suit 3rd party applications. IntelliVU can be used as a pre-processor, generating the data a 3rd Party platform requires in the form it needs as an internal report.
- From time to time the structure of the IntelliServer database has to change to support new system features. IntelliVU acts as a buffer, hiding these changes from 3rd party software.
- IntelliVU uses an internet browser user interface. Registered users can access IntelliVU reports from any location.
- IntelliVU is the ideal tool for generating a dashboard for overall health monitoring on a plasma.
